If more than one version appears, right-click the version you aren't using and select Uninstall. If only one version is listed, you can go to Step 3: Check your Microsoft subscription status. If Office still won't activate, try running an online repair as described in Repair an Office application to fix up the remaining install of Office. If you still can't activate, proceed to the next step. If you have a Microsoft for home subscription, let's make sure it's still active and renew your subscription, if necessary.

If you don't have Microsoft , you can skip to Step 4: Troubleshoot Office activation. I started those services and even set them to automatic , but still it has been of no use. I even downloaded and installed all the updates, but no progress I took ownership of that folder and set the appropriate permissions, but it still is not activating. I even called up Microsoft's helpline a Bangalore number, meaning an STD call , but after a long investigative chat with me, the Tech Rep said that it was because my version of office was Geo locked and could "never be activated in this region".

However, when I returned the box back to the vendor, he tried it on his PC and it installed and activated properly. Thus, the problem seems to be with my laptop! I looked up the Net and have tried many of the so-called solutions, but none seems to work. I have uninstalled and re-installed MS Office an umpteen number of times and am nearly at my wits end.
